We did it!!!

Yesterday, Scott and I successfully completed the Gold Coast Half Ironman in Coomera, Australia. It was a smokin’ hot day, which definitely made for a very tough race for the two Canucks in the crowd although somehow the heat didn’t seem to phase our Aussie competitors too much (man, what do they feed these guys down here?!?). So, while we didn’t exactly set PR’s, it was great to cross that finish line!!

It also made sleeping in the closet for the last 2 nights worth it, and, come to think of it, the 3:45am wake up call too. You may ask: why the closet? Well, it turns out that no one EVER sleeps in Surfers Paradise; the only place that I could drown out all the music and partying from the street below our 17th floor apartment was in the closet – so that’s where I slept.

Anyhow, looking back at the race and our training over the last 5 weeks, I learned a couple of very important things: 1) training just isn’t the same without the Terriers (and Coach Pennino’s spin classes); 2) it’s foolish to think we can “whip off” a half just because we’ve done one before; and 3) I still have so much room to improve (and tons to learn about triathlon). Oh yeah…and we will be cheering even harder at Kona – we can’t imagine doing DOUBLE the distance in the intense Hawaiian heat!

o from Tahoe! Elaine and I are here until October 23rd. October is really special up here. We have had several light snows, but mostly we have had great Fall weather. I have been following your blog and wondering if we will ever get you guys back. I think we will. Congratulations on finishing the 1/2 Ironman. It is really a special accomplishment when on thinks how few people in the world will ever complete a 1/2 Ironman. Have fun, and we will see you later. I have a few words of wisdom to pass on, but I will save it for later. BJ

I understand you will be visiting Jason, Cari and Will in Dallas. Maybe we could meet you guys in Dallas and take you back to Austin to train with Lance. Then you could fly out of Austin to your next stop. Either way, we will try to meet with both of you in Dallas. BJordan
