Sorry we’ve been off the map again recently. But, we’ve got some very exciting news that will hopefully explain why.
This trip was always intended to be much more than just a really long vacation. Obviously, it’s about being selfish – spending 24x7 together doing the things we love to do. But it’s also an opportunity to reflect and really consider many of the possible paths that our life could take – so that we don’t look back when we’re 70 and say “if only we….”
And, after countless hours of contemplation, it finally dawned on us. Truthfully, it wasn’t easy to admit it even to ourselves at first; we’re supposed to be driven, career-oriented professionals. We’ve worked hard to get those little letters – MBA, CFA behind our names, and eaten many breakfasts, lunches and dinners at the office.
But (deep breath), we’ve come to the realization that what we really want is a simple life. And we’ve found that life here in Oz. We’ve seen tons of people living happy, fulfilled, unencumbered lives out of campervans, traveling from beach to beach following the sun and surf. It might sound crazy to most North Americans, but honestly, it is a totally normal way of life here.
We did the math, and were delighted to see that we could live several years this way on our current savings without worry. So, we paid old Stevo at Ballina RV Pool and Tyre Centre a little visit last week, and we became the proud new owners of a little blue VW Campervan.
It was perfect; our purpose became so clear to us, and we were giddy. Well, giddy until the peyote wore off, that is, especially when we realized that our dream castle had neither a throneroom, nay a throne. :(
So back to old Stevo the little campervan went. And back to the office we will eventually go! :)

No! No! Don't give up the VW van. Life is not a dress rehearsal. This is it!! You had the right idea - and then you "pooped" out because the VW had no throne? We loved our nine months in Europe and Africa without pop-up or pooper. Just us and the little blue pail. Imagine sleeping in your own bed every night. These things come with facilities. Even a washer and dryer.
