It’s hard to believe that our time in Oz is drawing near to the end. So we decided to hit Sydney for one last hurrah, while we were in the neighborhood. As you may recall, Sydney is one of our top cities in the world, and although I believe you can enjoy the city on its own merits (incredible views, great parks, yummy oysters...) it was the opportunity to see some fair dink’um friends that really made it a great weekend.
It also reminded us of one of the great truisms in life; you never know who you’re going to meet or what unique experiences may be waiting for you just around the corner. Over fifteen years ago while visiting a great friend, Dean Kneider, for a ski trip in Whistler BC, I met one of his Aussie buddies, Ben Miller “The Lady Kill’a”. In short, one outrageous New Year’s Eve was all it took to become friends and it was great to see Ben, his wife Kate and their kids on Friday night.
The following night we spent with Ralph and Jane Dunning. We’d met Ralph and Jane and their two daughters Polly and Charlotte in Tuscany in May and hit it off with them immediately. The Dunnings were gracious hosts when we were first in Sydney in August and we couldn’t pass up the chance to see them one more time before we left Down Under. Not surprisingly, we had a terrific night that flew by all too quickly!
Needless to say it’ll be a while before we get to see our Aussie friends again, but it’ll certainly be good times when we do - whether it’s in a year, five or ten!
