Living the Life in Byron Bay

Yesterday was one of those regular but totally awesome days – you know, the ones where you’re not doing anything particularly special or unique but rather just the day to day things you love to do?

The alarm went off at 6am – which might sound nutty to many of you, especially considering it was a Sunday and oh yeah, we’re on an extended holiday….. But we were doing our first long ride in the Byron area and we wanted to get an early start.

After clocking 60 miles along the picturesque coastal highway from Byron Bay to Ballina, we walked across the street from our apartment to the beach to do a little surfing. That’s right, our apartment is like a 2 minute walk to the nearest beach and surf break, which is my new favorite break (I just so happened to catch my best and longest ride there the other day!). It was a glorious day – not a cloud in the sky, the water was crystal clear and the waves were rolling in beautifully! Does it get any better??

Well, actually….yes. To satisfy our then-famished bellies, we went to Twisted Sista (a great little café in Byron Bay) for some lattes and a slice of the yummiest, creamiest piece of Very Raspberry Cheesecake ever. This slice could have fed a family of eight! We kept telling ourselves that we had earned it but somehow I don’t think Lance Armstrong or good old Coach Pennino would agree. Come to think of it, they probably wouldn’t have approved of the tasty bottle of vino that we downed with dinner that night, either. Oh well, there goes our gold star for the week, but it was so worth it!

You guys are getting up way too early. I think I know the problem. You are going to bed too early. Try staying up every night till 1am. I think you will find you will not be getting up before 9am. Everything really sounds great in Oz. Elaine and I will be going there next year. I remember all the ladies went topless at Manley Beach. Has Helen joined the Oz tradition? Have fun, but be safe. Love BJ and Elaine
