S-s-s-surfing!

We had a terrific time in Sydney – catching up with some old friends and some new ones too (that we had met earlier in the trip) and visiting the Coogee Bay area (where I had stayed when I was here for school). We even experienced a very mild (thankfully) earthquake.

On Wednesday, we flew to Brisbane and drove down the coast to Byron Bay to begin our Australian surf safari! We were both a bit nervous that the water was going to be really cold but with a 3-2 wetsuit, it’s totally fine. Yeehaw, bring on the winter: )

So far, the surfing conditions have been great for learning, though my learning curve seems to be very slow….Still, I’m not complaining - it’s been a lot of fun and it’s cool just to take in the surroundings – while sitting in the line up we’ve seen dolphins playing around and even some whales just off shore. It’s incredible to think that this is just a regular scene here on the Gold Coast. As newbies to the area we’re definitely still in the ‘awe’ stage.

One final bit of exciting news for the day: Scott bought a surfboard today, and it’s appropriately called a Maddog! Brilliant!
