Monday was our 112-month anniversary (with a few exceptions, we have been celebrating our dating anniversary on a monthly basis since 1998). All in all, it was an awesome day; we decided to go on another hike!
Someone asked me what exactly I mean by hiking ~ haven’t those people in Canadia heard of ski lifts? Admittedly, hiking may not seem very practical to many. It is true that we pay for a full-day lift ticket so that we can get to the top of the mountain ONCE and then we hike for potentially hours to get ONE run down. Yesterday’s hike, for example, took us about 4 hours – and I think we spent about 80% of that time going UP not DOWN.
But there is something very cool about hiking and once you start doing it, it changes your perspective on skiing completely (and it spoils you!). Personally, I like breaking a sweat to get to some fresh tracks – it makes it that much sweeter. I also like doing stuff that not everyone else does.
But more than that, it changes the entire skiing experience for me. Basically, it slows it right down. It gives me a chance to think, to really take in my surroundings, and to appreciate the peace and serenity of it all. It’s just Scott and I, alone, exploring different ridges and looking out over an incredible expanse of snow-capped mountains. And to me, that is priceless. : )
