The Mile High Club

Ok – so we’re pretty much settled here in BC. It’s taken a few days to adjust to Whistler versus Tahoe because there are some key differences….such as: 1) you can’t buy alcohol in the grocery store (this was a surprisingly important finding when we arrived on Easter weekend and were getting ready to jump into the hot tub on our deck…). Thankfully there is a little place called Nesters that saved the day :) 2) It’s not sunny everyday here (actually, it’s pretty darn wet). On the flipside, Whistler is having a record snowfall year – 42 feet so far and counting. And the snow just keeps on coming – woo hoo! 3) The meteorologists on the Weather Network don’t even come close to the Weather Channel’s Kevin Robinson – so we’re quitting TV (and Ami, you thought we had been converted.). 4) Everyone we meet here is a tourist – tons of Europeans, Aussies and Asians – all nice people but it’s different from the very “local” feel in the ‘Hoe. 5) I feel more American – or more accurately - more New Yorker here than I do Canadian – not quite sure why…. And probably most importantly…. 6) These are HUGE mountains – I had forgotten just how big they are. It takes about 3x as long to get to the top of Blackcomb versus Squaw – about 40 minutes or so; and when you look up the lift, it looks like you’re just going into the clouds -- literally. Obviously this last point is a big plus :) -- there is so much to explore!!
